Margaret and Penny are Timesulin fans!

Margaret Whitehead and her daughter Penny are Timesulin fans that have been with us pretty much since day 1. When Margaret shared her enthusiasm for the simplicity and control that Timesulin gives them both with our team I asked her to write a blog post, which she graciously has done. I share it with you below – thank you for being Timesulin fans, Margaret and Penny! Here’s to many more years of health and diabetes peace of mind.

Timesulin fans Margaret and Penny

Margaret Whitehead writes:

Between us we have been Type 1 diabetics for the past 115 years! I was diagnosed in 1943, aged 4, and Penny, my daughter, was diagnosed in 1968 at the age of 7.

Penny has fared less well in that she lost her sight in one eye whilst at University and, because of somewhat poor control at times during the following years, her eyesight has deteriorated further. However, she has managed to cope very well with a high powered job in the West End of London, bring up 2 sons, and keep a roof over their heads.

In my earlier years I’ve stood as a Local Council candidate, which really tested my stamina and perseverance and never having driven a car, it really tested my walking capabilities too! With my husband, Stuart, we’ve visited New Zealand and Australia twice, and stopped off at various heavenly places to break up the journeys. Apart from my blood monitoring machine not working after going through one of the airports’ scanners, the trips were uneventful on the medical side. I retired at the age of 60 from a part-time secretarial post which was enjoyable and fulfilling.

Having seen the Timesulin caps on the Internet both Penny and I decided to try them and they have been so reliant, easy and informative in our every day care. We both recommend them highly and I’ve already sent an email to Diabetes UK about our complete satisfaction with them I’ve also told a diabetic group I used to belong to about them and they were very interested.

Timesulin User Feedback: Michael Austin

We received another note from a happy Timesulin user – this time Michael Austin in Middlesex, UK.

As my grey cells have lost their power over the years I have had to rely on reminders to ensure I do not forget  my daily insulin. Timesulin has answered this need perfectly. I dont trust ME to do this task..but I do trust Timesulin. It is a brilliant idea, simple and stylish, and although it will be copied by others, Timesulin really cares about its customers. This is largely due to Susan* (Communications Director) for whom nothing is too much trouble.

I wish you all much success in the future.

Happy Timesulin customer, Michael Austin with his wife Tricia. "She used to be my Timesulin before there was Timesulin," Michael says.

Timesulin User Feedback: Emma (Teapot Diabetic Blog)

We received feedback from Emma, the creator of the fabulous Teapot Diabetic Blog and Facebook page:

Emma from Teapot Diabetic blog with her Timesulin smart caps

I’m very grateful to the creators of Timesulin for saving me and thousands of other people with Diabetes from worrying about when they last injected. Diabetes will always keep you on your toes, so having the Timesulin caps have helped me spot patterns and reasons for high/low BG results too. It’s incredibly simple to use, and should you have any questions or problems the customer service team are AMAZING!

I’m not usually a forgetful person, but sometimes doubt can creep in. Did I do my injection? Without Timesulin I would have tested and possibly over-corrected leading to a nasty hypo, but now I can just pull out my pens and check the caps. I feel very lucky to have  found Timesulin, it’s an absolute godsend and I can’t wait to see it available in pharmacies across the UK!

Thank you! Emma, Teapot Diabetic

Timesulin User Feedback: Barbara Bass

Barbara Bass with her Timesulin smart cap for her Flexpen insulin penI am eligible for a senior bus pass so it is probably fair to assume my memory has glitches. Certainly this week I have searched in vain for a piece of buttered toast which went missing between the bread board, the trolley and the dining room table. And, no, we don’t have a dog. And I didn’t feed the birds because it was raining and I didn’t want to get wet. However, I am very good at remembering to put my medication next to my plate at the table, including my Novorapid insulin pen 3 times a day, and my Levemir pen twice a day.

Having a bus pass I am of that generation whose husband keeps out of the kitchen. I don’t mind. I resolutely don’t mow the grass. I find when I have taken some trouble over cooking a good meal, and when I am hungry, and dinner is served, I sometimes start eating it straightaway while it is hot. Some minutes later I see the pills lying there and I swallow them, and I stare at the pen. Have I taken my insulin? I usually have a shrewd idea but occasionally I am not certain. The insulin pen is MARVELLOUS in those circumstances. The pills disappear when you take them but the pen used to retain an impervious enigma. Not any more!

My diabetes is secondary to pancreatic surgery in 1977 and I have been diagnosed since 1990. All my results are good saving the Hba1c reading always being a bit too high. This year, with the Timesulin pen to help me, I have achieved what the consultant called ‘excellent results’. And he wanted details of Timesulin when I partly attributed my improvement to it. Like many great ideas it is beautifully simple to use. I am so grateful to its inventor.

Cheers!

Barbara Bass

Riva Greenberg: Saved by My Insulin Cap

Riva GreenbergI have what’s recently grown into a nasty habit. First thing in the morning, as soon as I wake up — usually around 6:30 a.m. or 7 a.m. — I walk into my kitchen. No, thats not the nasty part.I stand glazed over my glucose meter for my first reading of the day. Then I almost always take one unit of my rapid acting insulin to keep my blood sugar from rising like Mt. Vesuvius before I get to eat my breakfast. Then I take my thyroid pill and pull my long-acting insulin pen out of the cup where I keep it, so Ill see it and take it at 9 a.m. each morning.Sorry, thats not the nasty habit either — those are the good habits. But recently, Ive been so focused on getting to my computer as soon as those morning bits are over — since Im finishing writing my third diabetes book and have a timeline of it being published by late summer — that everything else goes to hell for the next few hours. The worst being I am forgetting to take my 9 a.m. long-acting insulin injection.

Timesulin did its work today – by Riva Greenberg

Riva GreenbergYesterday afternoon I received the following email from diabetes advocate, journalist and all-round lovely person, Riva Greenberg. I had to share it with you:

At 11:30 this morning I walked into the kitchen to see my insulin pen still on the counter. In the morning I take my pen out of a mug I keep it in to take my shot, and after my shot I put it back in the mug. It seemed odd that it would still be on the counter. It’s not like me to forget to take my shot. I thought maybe I took my shot and forgot to put my pen back into the mug. But I couldn’t know for sure, could I? UNTIL NOW, WITH TIMESULIN’S SMART CAP!!! Sure ‘nuf it showed I hadn’t taken my shot for 27 hours!

Thank you Timesulin!

This is exactly why we created Timesulin – for those moments where you just are not sure… Thank you for sharing this with us, Riva! Has your Timesulin cap saved you from an accidental double dose?

Update: Riva has also shared her experience on the Tu Diabetes Blog.

Timesulin on Pinterest

I have long been a Pinterest fan (find me here) and just love the simplicity of the platform that allow me to find stuff anywhere on the internet and add it to my ‘mood boards’. It surely has allowed me to clear up much of the clutter on my desk as I can now virtually pin things as opposed to having to tear pictures out of magazines, having them lie around with the intentions of collecting it all somewhere and then, eventually get rid of these clippings, exasperated and a little frustrated with myself! Pinterest makes it so much easier – and instant.

We’ve gotten some great feedback about Timesulin on Pinterest too! It seems that people like the sleek design and the simplicity of Timesulin enough to add it to their own mood boards – and yes, I’ve added it to mine too!

Diabetes Nurse Review: Helena Farrell

Irish Diabetes Nurse, Helena Farrell, has been a fan of Timesulin since she first heard about the concept back in October 2011. One of the first ones to get patients at her Diabetes Insight clinic to use Timesulin, her enthusiasm to help those living with the condition lead a better life is purely contagious! She shares her experiences using Timesulin at Diabetes Insight with us:

HELENA FARRELL, DIABETES INSIGHT (www.diabetesinsight.ie)

Throughout my sixteen years in nursing practice, adherence to medications has been a consistent problem and one which many health care professionals underestimate. This is no more so in diabetes, where I would receive panicked phone calls from clients who have forgotten to take their insulin injections and wondering what to do. Many studies have been conducted on adherence to medications/insulin in diabetes, with many citing forgetfulness as one of the primary reasons as to why this occurs.

That is why I welcome Timesulin to the market, an innovative, easy to use product that has been both needed and anticipated by both individuals with diabetes and health care professionals for some time. To say I have been impressed by both the enthusiasm and professionalism of the Timesulin team is an understatement. It is wonderful to see products and innovations for diabetes coming to the market that are designed by the very people who experience diabetes on a day to day basis. And John Sjölund, CEO and founder of Timesulin, who has Type 1 diabetes, embodies this. For me having a product in my practice, that is designed and used by someone who has Type 1 Diabetes, gives that product even more credence, and Timesulin is no exception.

Presently in my practice, I have a number of my clients using Timesulin and the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive in more ways than one.

Firstly the ease of use of the Timesulin cap has been a feature that has been consistently reported back to me. For me as a health care professional, time is of the essence when educating individuals with diabetes, and Timesulin buys into this philosophy. It requires very little instruction for having such a huge benefit to my clients which is always a good thing!

Secondly, and this is the most obvious feature, fear of forgetting a dose of insulin or overlapping on doses are allayed, as it is recorded in black and white on the cap, when you took your last dose. The stress, panic and fear of not remembering or knowing you have forgotten your insulin disappears when using Timesulin, and this is vital for anyone who has to take injections several times a day, while fitting diabetes into their busy lifestyles.

Finally, this has been the feedback that has surprised me and benefitted my clients the most, is how using Timesulin has made them more aware of their daily routine. They can now clearly see when they took their last injection, and are becoming aware of how long a gap they are leaving between injections, or the opposite, how little a gap there is, especially when taking fast acting insulin injections. For many of them this has been a real eye opener and they have regulated their routine accordingly. It is early days yet, but, because of this simple change, they are reporting they have better control of their blood sugar levels because of a regular routine. For me, this has been a surprising but delightful benefit of Timesulin and has aided me in the education and support I give to my clients with diabetes. I look forward to bringing Timesulin to even more of my clients, and seeing the benefits it gives to them as it has to others.

User Feedback: Bill

We have started getting feedback from our users who have received their Timesulin caps and I wanted to share some with you. This one comes from Bill in Devon:

I got my Timesulin pen top last week and need to write and tell you just how superb it is. All you have to do is take it out of the box and put it onto your pen. Even I can do that. No buttons or levers, nothing to program, no menus.

Picture the scenario: “Oops have I taken my insulin”  (Looks at pen top) “Oh yes 32 minutes ago!”

In short it is Brrrriliant. Only last month I accidentally took my dose twice, this can be very dangerous – and even fatal – so your device will undoubtedly save lives.

Kind regards, Bill

Thank you, Bill! I’m thrilled to hear that we are helping you manage your insulin intake and making life with diabetes a little easier. Ultimately, that’s our goal – we want people to be able to focus on things other than their diabetes and spend less energy on worrying about whether or not they’ve administered their shot.
